The new curriculum standard for junior high school English includes three main components: knowledge and skills, values and attitudes, and learning strategies.
Knowledge and skills: Students are expected to acquire essential linguistic knowledge and
skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. They should be able to use English to communicate effectively in different situations, such as socializing, giving and receiving information, and expressing opinions and preferences.
Values and attitudes: In addition to language proficiency, students are expected to develop positive values and attitudes towards English learning, such as a curiosity and interest in exploring different cultures, an appreciation for diversity, and a sense of responsibility for their own learning.
Learning strategies: To become more effective learners, students are encouraged to develop learning strategies that help them to set goals, plan their learning, identify and use resources, monitor their progress, and reflect on their achievements.
The new
curriculum standard emphasizes the importance of integrating language learning with content learning, such as science, social studies, and literature. It also encourages teachers to use authentic materials and real-life situations to help students develop a deeper understanding of the language and its cultural contexts.
