Bilingual dictionaries are preferred. Then you learn how to paraphrase, that is to say, you can explain a word by using some simpler ones.

8: Recite something repeatedly. (反复背诵)

It’s a bad idea to recite everything you have learnt, or you will be exhausted and lose your interest gradually. Choose a poem or a speech you like, then read it, understand it and finally recite it. Don’t recite a new one until you can speak it out very, very naturally and confidently. Surely, it doesn’t apply to learning the vocabulary.
